What is a Mini Goldendoodle?

A Mini Goldendoodle crosses a Golden Retriever with a Miniature Poodle, keeping the golden's sunny, eager-to-please temperament in a smaller, lighter-shedding package. That first cross is called an F1. A Mini Goldendoodle can also be bred with a Miniature Poodle (those puppies are F1B) or with another Goldendoodle. Minis at Lonestar usually mature around 30 to 40 pounds, and our Micro Minis stay under 25 pounds. That is small enough for apartment life and airline-friendly travel, but sturdy enough to keep up with kids in the yard. Nothing about the personality shrinks with the frame.

Size expectations, honestly

Weights are estimates, not guarantees: a puppy's adult size follows the combined average of its parents, so we share both parents' weights with every family and update estimates as litters grow. If your heart is set on the smallest end of the range, the Micro Mini waitlist is the reliable path, because those puppies reserve fastest of anything we raise.

Coats, colors and generations

Mini Goldendoodles come in the same coats and colors as their bigger siblings: loose waves to tight curls, light cream through champagne and apricot to deep red, including English Cream lines. The History of the Mini Goldendoodle

Mini Goldendoodles share the Goldendoodle's short history. The cross was first bred in North America in the 1990s, pairing the Poodle's intelligence and light-shedding coat with the Golden Retriever's trainability and friendliness, and the earliest litters were raised as service dogs for people who could not live with a traditional guide dog's coat. The mini arrived as families asked for the same dog in a smaller frame: breeders reached for a Miniature Poodle instead of a standard one, and the temperament came through unchanged.

Temperament

Nothing about a Mini Goldendoodle's personality is miniature. They are eager to please, quick to train and deeply attached to their people, with the same low prey drive and love of water as their full-sized siblings. The smaller frame mostly changes the logistics: easier travel, easier bathing, and a dog that fits an apartment or a townhouse comfortably. They still want a daily walk and something to think about. What they want most is to be near you, which matters far more to them than square footage.

A Poodle coat often lightens as a puppy grows, and there is no reliable way to predict which way any individual puppy will go. We would rather tell you that now than have you feel surprised later.
