Goldendoodle

Goldendoodle

Goldendoodles have a hypoallergenic coat, which makes them a great choice for people with allergies or asthma. Goldendoodles are typically easygoing and enjoy being around people, which makes them great companion animals. They are also highly adaptable and can do well in a variety of living situations, from small apartments to larger homes with yards. The beloved goldendoodle, a golden retriever and poodle hybrid, earns popularity points for his affectionate nature as well as his beautiful (and allergen-friendly!) coat. They are highly intelligent, trainable, and great with families and children and as emotional support animals.

The History of the
Goldendoodle

The Goldendoodle is a relatively newer breed that was first bred in North America in the 1990s. The breed was created by crossing a Golden Retriever with a Poodle, with the goal of combining the intelligence, hypoallergenic coat, and good temperament of the Poodle with the trainability and friendly nature of the Golden Retriever. The first Goldendoodles were bred to create a service dog for people with disabilities who had allergies to dog hair. The breed quickly gained popularity, as they were seen as an ideal family pet due to their loving, friendly nature and hypoallergenic coat. Today, the Goldendoodle is recognized as a hybrid dog breed and is considered one of the most popular crossbreeds in North America.

What Makes
Goldendoodles
Unique

Goldendoodles are unique because they are a crossbreed, meaning they have a mix of physical and personality traits from both their Golden Retriever and Poodle parents, making them versatile and adaptable.

They are smart, trainable, affectionate, and so loveable! They are also active, so they need regular exercise and mental stimulation.
They can be good hiking companions, love water, have a low prey drive and strong loyalty tendencies.

Goldendoodles are well known for being loyal and make excellent companions and service animals.

Living with a
Goldendoodle

Living with a goldendoodle in the home is a fun and joyful experience. Their friendly and sociable personalities make them phenomenal companions for individuals as well as big families. Goldendoodles are affectionate, loyal, intelligent and thrive on human interaction and attention. Because they are eager to please, goldendoodles are easier to train than many other breeds, making them a great fit as service dogs, or for a first-time pet owner. They are also known for being able to adapt to different living situations and lifestyles, so whether you have an apartment, or acres to run, your Goldendoodle will make themselves at home. Interactive toys and puzzles are a great option to help keep them occupied and mentally stimulated.

We have heard from many Lonestar families that come back for the 2nd doodle- exclaim that their current doodle is the “best dog they have every owned”!

American Goldendoodles & English Cream Goldendoodles
What are the Differences?

One of the ways the American Goldendoodles differ from English Cream Goldendoodles is in looks. They can have a much larger variety of colors and sizes from white to black to multi colors and every color in between.  Some also have a slimmer build and seem to appear “lighter” on their feet. Many normal Goldendoodles can also have the “Teddy Bear” look as it can depend of the build of the parent dogs.

English Cream Goldendoodles are a more specific breed of Goldendoodle as they are bred from an English Cream Golden Retriever. This means that one of their ancestors is actually from Europe. English Cream Retrievers can have a longer lineage than most American Golden Retrievers and are actually known to live longer.

English Cream Goldendoodles are known for their sturdy body type and more blocky heads. These attributes have given English Cream Goldendoodles the nickname of “Teddy Bear Goldendoodles.” English Cream Goldendoodles are well known for their Teddy Bear look, gorgeous, lighter coats and their gentle dispositions.

The term “English cream” is not just a color but more accurately, the term “English Cream” should be used to refer specifically to a Goldendoodle whose Retriever ancestor was actually an English Cream Golden Retriever.

In behavior, both breeds are very friendly and easy to train. The English golden retriever has a more laid-back temperament. We have said for years that our English girls do everything “in slow motion” as that is just their nature.

Type | F1B

These dogs usually have the ability to have curlier coats.

*Please keep in mind that not all F1B coats are curly, genetics play a role in trait expression. The curlier the coat, the less chance of shedding.

*Important*

The poodle lightens over time, but it is impossible to say which way any given pup will go. We do not want anyone to be disappointed or to feel deceived, so we want to make sure you are aware of this tendency before purchasing. In the face of this happening frequently to our pups as they age, they remain the most popular of our breeds as they are very winsome and have personalities that make it all worthwhile 😉
