Bernedoodle

Bernedoodle

Bernedoodle parents proudly claim that this mixed breed inherited the finest from both of its parents – the Poodle and the Bernese Mountain Dog.  They are clever, goofy, very gentle and loyal. Bernedoodles thrive on human companionship and enjoy being involved in family activities. Their gentle nature makes them well-suited for households with children, as they exhibit patience and tenderness.

History of the Bernedoodle

The Bernedoodle is a relatively new breed of dog that originated in the United States in the early 2000s. The breed is a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. The breed was developed in response to the desire for a larger, more hypoallergenic dog with the friendly and affectionate nature of a Bernese Mountain Dog.

The Bernese Mountain Dog is a large and beautiful breed that originated in the Swiss Alps, originally bred as farm dogs and used to pull carts, herd livestock, and protect the farm. Bernese Mountain Dogs are known for their friendly and outgoing personalities and beautiful tri-colored coats. They can also come in black and white and possibly merle colors depending on the poodle type. Poodles, on the other hand, are a highly intelligent breed that originated in Germany. They are known for their curly coats and hypoallergenic qualities, making them a popular choice for people with allergies.

When these two breeds are crossed, the result is the Bernedoodle, a dog that combines the best traits of both breeds.

What Makes Bernedoodles Unique?

Bernedoodles often bond strongly with their owners and serve as great watchdogs.

Their gentle and patient nature, combined with their loving and loyal nature make them a great choice for families with small children.

The unique appearance of the bernedoodle, with wavy, curly, or straight coats and unique markings, often makes them referred to as "teddy bear dogs."

Living with a Bernedoodle

Living with a Bernedoodle can be an absolute joy. Their friendly, affectionate personalities make them great companions for both adults and children.

The hypoallergenic, thick, curly coat does require regular brushing and trimming to prevent matting and tangling and to keep their coats looking healthy and shiny.

In addition to their personalities, Bernedoodles can differ in appearance. Their coats can be curly and wavy or straight and come in a variety of colors.

*Important*

The poodle lightens over time, but it is impossible to say which way any given pup will go. We do not want anyone to be disappointed or to feel deceived, so we want to make sure you are aware of this tendency before purchasing. In the face of this happening frequently to our pups as they age, they remain the most popular of our breeds as they are very winsome and have personalities that make it all worthwhile 😉
